Message from Our Blessed Mother in Medjugorje August 25th 2026

Dear children,

Today I am calling you: return to God, return to prayer, so that you may become carriers of peace. Pray, little children, for peace that is in danger; and may prayer begin to flow anew from your hearts and from your families, so that, in joy, you may feel the voice of Jesus in your hearts: 'Peace be with you.' Be, little children, carriers of peace and prayer for all those who do not pray. I am with you and I pray for you before my Son Jesus.  Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Vae victis ..Woe to the Vanquished

Recently I visited a town renowned for its traditional blacksmiths; everything from machetes for farming to replicas of battle-ready medieval swords. The process is long and exacting; spring steel forged at high temperature and hammered repeatedly on the anvil into shape and its cutting edges prepared; tempered and quenched to harden the steel; and sharpening with grindstone and then assembled with hilt and pommel.

All of which reminded me of a confessor I had many years ago. My last visit to him ended with a mysterious warning: “expect a lot of suffering”.  As a recent returnee to the Father’s house I was thinking more of unlimited ‘fatted calf’ barbecue for some time to come; but he spotted something else: a rusted chunk of spring steel that would need a lot of work. The only way for God to bring about change in the heart of man is really by means of suffering; there is no other way.

And right on cue it began. I didn’t know the enemy would be given such a free hand (or have a couple of little helpers placed in my circle). I felt like an unarmed, bewildered Hobbit being overrun by an army of ugly violent Orcs as I underwent the beginner’s spiritual warfare training. Analogous to Prometheus having his liver torn out every day; my mind and heart were tormented by whatever deceiving spirit was let loose. The only relief I found were a few minutes per day at Mass during the consecration and a few minutes afterward. Whatever it was had to flee at that point it seems. I could only pray and cling to a God I barely knew (I never prayed so much, so hard or for so long) trusting that the horror would in fact end, which two years later it did. Delivered just as suddenly as it began, at His word, and the aggressors were finally vanquished. Vae victis ! I too had been forged, hammered, tempered, sharpened, hopefully a little more useful by then in the hand of the Maker.

The Boy who Shared

Many years ago, I had a Catholic Truth Society children’s book, kept in my grandparent’s house, which I looked at often when I visited, entitled “The Boy who Shared”. It was about the feeding of the five thousand from the perspective of the boy; as I didn’t like reading much I followed the story by looking at the pictures.

All our actions do have a ripple effect; but when they are in union with Jesus that effect can be enormous and far reaching. When the boy bankrolled the miracle with five loaves and 2 fish, he could not have anticipated such ROI (return on investment). Five thousand men were fed; this story was etched in the minds of every believer across 20 centuries and around the world.

I read a more recent story from South Africa a few years ago, about a youth pastor, who after a long day decided to stop at a burger joint for a big dinner. Outside was a group of 5 street children begging and the Holy Spirit prompted him to get them each a hamburger. Whilst he realised this would reduce his anticipated feast, he submitted to the inspiration and bought 6 burgers including one for himself. He went outside to distribute them and as he did another crowd of street kids ran across the road towards him. There would not be enough. Anyway as he slipped his hand into the bag there was always one more there, he gave one to each of the newcomers and at the end there was still one left for him. The lesser known miracle of the multiplication of hamburgers!

No act of kindness or charity, done in union with God, is without its effect, both immediate and eternal. As St Paul puts it in Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Lord, make them good; punish them!

The grandson of one of my mentors, when he was a small boy, prayed for an adversary who had offended him in some way “Lord, make him good, punish him”. Out of the mouths of babes, wisdom! For he knew from his brief experience on earth that being punished for bad behaviour led to either a change of heart or as a boy at least a temporary change in behaviour.

It was interesting to learn that an eminent exorcist used a rather similar prayer during an exorcism where the demon was reluctant to obey his commands. So he prayed to God the Father to “punish him in a way he has never been punished before” Moments later, agonising howls of anguish, impossible for Hollywood to simulate, emanated from the demon as he was punished and then became compliant and submitted to the commands given by the Priest.

A few weeks ago I spent the night in the historic town of Taal in Batangas, in a house where the freedom fighters who began the liberation of the Philippines from Spanish Colonial rule, used to meet and make their plans. It made me reflect on how quickly idealism and self-sacrifice can decay to abuse of power, self-interest, and the corruption that Filipinos have become accustomed to since full independence barely 80 years ago.

Some commentators theorise that whilst having the appearance of government, with a senate, congress, governors etc. it is now essentially a failed state. More akin to a loosely affiliated entrepreneurial criminal enterprise of political dynasties, land owners and business people whose sole task is to harvest cash from the public purse by any and all means with complete disregard for God, country or people.

Everything in heaven and on earth operates on authority. Even if the votes have been purchased illegitimately, those in power have been given authority by the people. And perhaps this is why ‘people-power’ has no real effect as the on-going pantomime performances in congress and senate illustrate. However there is one avenue left to explore for real change which is to appeal to the One who has complete authority over all. ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me”(Matt 28:18) And the church and its members have the task of enforcing it by prayer. Often we hear in church petitions asking God to make leaders honest, or humble or to have integrity… that’s nice, but to get the job done we need more than a suggestion we need the prayers of the young boy  and the exorcist  “Lord, Make them good (or compliant); Punish them” and then watch Him work.

“A place Prepared for us”

Statistics can be deceptive. There are now more than 1.4 Billion Catholics on the planet. Some is the result of evangelisation and much due to cultural inheritance as infants are baptised soon after birth. So whilst the picture may look rosy at first sight the reality may be quite different.

The advantage of infant Baptism is that the new born receives grace immediately and therefore has some measure of protection from the enemy of our souls; but it must be built upon. Ultimately each person must make a conscious decision for God, to be a follower of Jesus. Many seem to think that after Baptism and perhaps participation in sacramental programmes that salvation is a ‘done deal’ with little or no requirement to live differently from the rest of humanity.

Recently, I read of the experience of St Teresa of Avilla where she was shown an unusual vision. We may be familiar with the message from scripture that Jesus is preparing a place for us in His kingdom, which He has of course, but what she saw was the alternative… Satan imitates what God does and she was shown the place prepared for her in hell that her sins merited. She described it, “The entrance seemed to be by a long narrow pass, like a furnace, very low, dark, and close. The ground seemed to be saturated with water, mere mud, exceedingly foul, sending forth pestilential odours, and covered with loathsome vermin. At the end was a hollow place in the wall, like a closet, and in that I saw myself confined. All this was even pleasant to behold in comparison with what I felt there. There is no exaggeration in what I am saying.  I felt a fire in my soul. I cannot see how it is possible to describe it. My bodily sufferings were unendurable....especially when I saw that there would be no intermission, nor any end to them. These sufferings were nothing in comparison with the anguish of my soul, a sense of oppression, of stifling, and of pain so keen, accompanied by so hopeless and cruel an infliction, that I know not how to speak of it. If I said that the soul is continually being torn from the body, it would be nothing, for that implies the destruction of life by the hands of another but here it is the soul itself that is tearing itself in pieces. I cannot describe that inward fire or that despair, surpassing all torments and all pain. I did not see who it was that tormented me, but I felt myself on fire, and torn to pieces, as it seemed to me; and, I repeat it, this inward fire and despair are the greatest torments of all. Left in that pestilential place, and utterly without the power to hope for comfort, I could neither sit nor lie down: there was no room. I was placed as it were in a hole in the wall; and those walls, terrible to look on of themselves, hemmed me in on every side. I could not breathe. There was no light, but all was thick darkness. I do not understand how it is; though there was no light, yet everything that can give pain by being seen was visible” (Teresa of Ávila, 2007, Chapter 32, Section 2).

I imagine she was quite motivated to become a saint following such a harrowing vision.  And we too must take our commitment to God seriously, to choose our eternal destination carefully. “To not decide is to decide”.

Our Lady's Latest Message from Medjugorje (July 25, 2026)

“Dear children!

While darkness and peacelessness rule in many hearts, you, little children, be prayer and my extended hands of love. Little children, place the Sacred Scripture in a visible place in your family and read it, so that it may be an encouragement for you to conversion and a new life; because Satan is strong and seduces hearts. Your hearts, through my maternal Heart, I desire to commend to the Heart of my Son Jesus, so that He, the Risen One, may reign in you and joy may begin to reign in you and around you.

Thank you for having responded to my call.

No one knows the day or the hour

Some years ago, when we lived in the Midlands a lady had a Mass offered for her sick brother-in-law who was a cancer patient, she was looking after him, a full time job at that stage. After the Mass a few of the parishioners were invited back to the house for tea & biscuits. They talked for a while and she shared her concerns for her brother-in-law. Whilst she was a devout Catholic, he had no time for God at all.

A very intelligent man, the living room was filled with plaques and certificates that hailed his achievements in his academic and professional undertakings and as a civic leader and local hero, but faith was absent and she feared for him as he had already exceeded the life expectancy predicted by the doctors, another credit to his will of iron.

That evening he was not at home, but at the hospital scheduled to receive a blood transfusion. The nature of his illness meant that he had a low haemoglobin count and so needed regular transfusions. After tea, the group decided to pray together for a while, first for the lady who was so exhausted and also for her patient. They prayed for the current problem with his blood, also that he would be relieved of his pains and be able to sleep again (it had been almost a year since he had a night’s sleep, every few minutes he woke up because of the pain), and also for him to open his heart to God and receive the faith.

Meanwhile in the hospital, at the same time, 9pm, the patient was hooked up to a machine which monitored his haemoglobin count and other parameters, while the doctors were preparing for the transfusion. It was measuring a low level, then suddenly it went up and was reading what would be considered normal. The doctors were a bit baffled by this, but continued with the transfusion. (The patient told his sister-in-law about this strange event, on his return, before she told him that he was being prayed for).

That same night he slept like a baby too, and was able to do so in the next few months with little or no pain killers. The same group of parishioners visited him again after his release from the hospital and whilst he became more open and requested prayers, as he always felt better afterwards, he was still unwilling to believe what God had done for him. (perhaps the blood count machine was malfunctioning, perhaps the pain killers were working better all of a sudden, maybe its psychological , if you know you’re being prayed for maybe it makes you feel better ! etc.)

The more people that witnessed to him the wonders of God, the more hard headed he seemed to become! Some months passed and on January the 3rd 2006, he passed away.

On January the 2nd he was rushed to hospital with a chest problem, which turned out to be Pneumonia.

But on January 1st, at his own request, he was Baptised and became a Catholic the peace and joy that filled him at that moment visible to all present. The Lord knew the day and the hour and He answers prayers !

Our Father will pursue each soul to the very end; but prayer is really needed, without the consistent prayers over many years of his sister-in-law, the outcome could have been so very different. As Our Lady mentioned at Fatima in one of her messages to the children .. Pray, pray much, and sacrifice for sinners, for many souls go to hell because there is no one to sacrifice and pray for them.”(August 19th 1917 Message)

Thought Crime

..be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.  (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Nowadays I live in a country where abortion is still illegal but have been following the changes in the UK where attitudes have hardened even more than when I was there.

I remember receiving a leaflet in the mid 1970’s as a schoolboy, given outside the school. It was graphic, the limbs and fingers and feet of an aborted baby were visible and never having heard of abortion, I was horrified that anyone could do such a thing. That was soon after it was legalised, there was no propaganda machine at work to fill the world with any false narrative then.

I watched some videos of the discussions at March for Life (UK) and heard many encouraging stories about the work currently being undertaken and sadly the restrictions and added pressures they are under. In my day the worse that could happen would be to lose your job or livelihood over a pro-life stand; nowadays it seems you can be arrested for praying or even just standing near an abortion facility. The Orwellian era of “thought crime” has arrived.

It seems likely then that the sacrifices required will increase if legalised child sacrifice is to be stopped. The rage of its proponents will continue to flare and those working at the coal face producing and delivering educational materials, crisis counselling or speaking up for the unborn and their mothers, will experience more abuse and intimidation as time goes on. It is arduous work but lives are being saved, more than are known I am sure.

I heard a phrase recently that I have been mulling over, it was that “one day, our stories will all be told rightly, around the campfires of heaven” And when that day comes it will be those unseen and faithful pro-lifers who will be honoured for their devotion and sacrifices; for knowing where to stand and with whom.

OUR LADY'S MESSAGE JUNE 25TH 2026 ON THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPARITIONS

“Dear children!

Rejoice with me because the Most High permits me to be with you, to lead you to Him Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Rejoice, little children, and be joyful also in difficulties and you will have the strength, because you will be aware that you are transient and you will know to offer everything to God. That is why, do not forget: I am your Mother and I love you.

Thank you for having responded to my call."

Present in the Silence

I am reading a book called Holy Silence about Quaker worship. They have no liturgy, or preaching, just communal silence where they listen for the voice of God and become aware of His presence amongst them.

The author brought a group of young Quakers to Mass once so they could see how other Christians worshiped. He was friendly with the local Priest who gave them a talk first and explained what would be happening so that it would not be a complete mystery.

Afterwards they had a chat over dinner and the young Quakers were asked which part of the service most closely resembled their own Quaker worship.  They all agreed that it was in the Eucharist, the Consecration. One put it like this “that was when we really felt that Jesus was there” Another added “it got so quiet then” another indicator for them of the Lord’s presence.

Many in our church scarcely believe in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist sadly and this lack of belief has been repeated over the centuries countered just as frequently with Eucharistic miracles. The first being at Lanciano in Italy where a monk wrestled with his doubts about Transubstantiation and during Mass the host was visibly changed into flesh and blood.

More than a thousand years later it remains, not having undergone any decay. Tests done in the 1980’s showed that the host was heart tissue, and the blood was still fresh. What a gift we have been given.

The Call of Nature

Once my Dad was in his sixties, he had to get up in the night to answer the call of nature. This inconvenient awakening bore fruit though as he often entered into prayer before returning to sleep.

He prayed the Divine Mercy chaplet for anyone who was dying at that hour or for the holy souls in purgatory. This nocturnal pilgrimage continued until it was his turn to pass from this life to the next. I wonder how many souls his prayers assisted on their journey to God and how much prayer there was for him at that moment as a consequence.

It seems that the baton has now been passed to me. I am not normally a (3‘0 Clock in the) morning person and so am in a semi-coma as I stagger into the gloom, stubbing a toe on everything (mercifully there are no lego land mines along the route). Lately though I have paused to pray and accompany my fellow travellers, those dying or suffering the fires of purgatory. It is a noble undertaking and at a time when the heart and house are quiet.

Behind the veil, it will be well received as these words given to St Gertrude from Jesus illustrate "… If a beneficent king leaves his guilty friend in prison for justice's sake, he awaits with longing for one of his nobles to plead for the prisoner and to offer something for his release. Then the king joyfully sets him free. By the prayers of thy loving soul, I am induced to free a prisoner from purgatory as often as thou dost move thy tongue to utter a word of prayer."

Who would think that a full bladder can be a means of such grace; but it can.

That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into

Pentecost must have been brilliant. No language barriers, many healings, miracles, visions, and clear guidance from God; the Apostles were unstoppable. And even in our day an encounter with the Holy Spirit tends to produce great fervour in those who have made the transition from believeing God exists to one’s certainty that He exists. All manner of adventure awaits those who embrace the risk of trusting when He puts you on the spot.

One evening (in the last century) I was on my way to Mass in Manchester City Centre, I parked outside the church at the end of the road as usual (as the traffic wardens had gone home for the night) and was about to walk up when a boy on a bycicle stopped and asked if I would help his friend who had been grabbed by two men at the top of the street. I said ‘yes’ and could see the two figures up ahead. He jumped back on his bike and set off, presumably to tell his friend that the cavalry was on the way!

I walked briskly up the road and decided I had better consult HQ to see what the plan was. So I prayed “Lord, what do you want me to say when I get there?” I waited a few seconds. Complete Radio Silence. Perhaps that was the wrong question. So I prayed “Lord, what shall I do once I get there? And I added a suggestion so as to move things along as I was already half way there.. “Shall I thump him on the nose?” Silence again. In the last 10 seconds I tried to recall the numerous methods God uses to communicate with his people, I scanned the vegetation looking for anything smouldering, checked the pavement for a conveniently discarded donkey’s jaw bone and then suddenly I had arrived.

At a range of 12 inches from the face of the antagonist who still had hold of the boy’s arm I concluded that I ought to follow the instructions precisely. So I said …. Nothing. I did … Nothing. I simply stared at their faces; relentlessly! Neither seemed able to make eye contact with me.  He let go of the boy, they exchanged a few more ‘un-pleasantries’ with each other and the two men turned on their heels and left. The boy said “thanks mister” and he and his friend left in the opposite direction. I went to Mass none-the wiser as to what had transpired!

It would be interesting to know the other side of the story; perhaps my guardian angel had shown himself with a flaming sword or maybe I looked more terrifying than usual. In any case I know that God is trustworthy and we can have confidence in Him to come through when we do what is proper. (“In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” John 16:33)

‘Légion étrangère’

It is often only with hindsight that we can comprehend the significance of certain events or fleeting moments in life. The other day I suddenly remembered a peculiar meeting, 33 years ago at a motorway service station on the M6 in the UK.

A few compadres and I were returning from Medjugorje (Bosnia Herzegovina) having delivered a few vanloads of aid goods to the refugees during the war there. We clambered out of a minibus, unkempt, unshaven, weary, and with an odour that sang its own tune. A man approached us; he was a soldier in the French Foreign Legion, a Glaswegian, given leave to attend his mother’s funeral. He asked to exchange some French Francs for Pounds so he could complete his journey. We were able to oblige and he gave me his business card. His skill set was impressive.

The Legion will accept anyone as a volunteer. They are given a new identity when they join (many need one) and the training is one of the toughest of any military unit. Whatever skill they bring will be greatly enhanced through training and discipline and unified in their ‘esprit de corps’.

The other day, I watched a talk about Medjugorje where the interviewee spoke about the essence of what Medjugorje is about. Whilst there are many physical healings of course, the most important and most numerous by far are the massive conversions that take place every day. There were complete turnarounds in the lives of the most shipwrecked souls you can imagine. A Priest mentioned that converts have deeply felt contrition for their past sins. Medjugorje does not attract the good so much, as those whose lives are wounded by mortal sin and ignorance. (I can be counted amongst these). The graces being poured out from heaven so liberally on the least deserving of souls, is unprecedented.

But the Medjugorje experience is just the beginning; as with the Légion étrangère,’ we are given a new identity, restored as children of God as we are snatched out of the fire and begin a long and often painful process of change, purification and growth; our basic training in the Christian life, to pray with the heart; weapons training like the Rosary and an array of armaments for the spiritual warfare we are all engaged in. In the first instance then, Medjugorje can be seen as heaven’s rescue mission for each individual but from another vantage point :- it’s something more.

In almost 45 years since the apparitions began, over 50 million pilgrims from all over the world have visited. Few would return empty handed and so now our Lady has at her command, at a variety of levels of training, millions of warriors, formerly ensnared by the enemy to some degree, now forged to form the tip of the spear against him and his legions. They are deployed by the Queen of Peace through Prayer groups, Pilgrimage organisers, (annoying) evangelists, charitable groups and a multitude of other frontlines throughout the world, who by the word of their testimony increase the harvest of souls.

Oftentimes the more traditional Catholics don’t get it… we look different, sound different, dress differently perhaps and sometimes we smell different, but we love God : which puts us on the same side!

My Sheep Hear my Voice and they follow me

Anyone who takes their faith and the Christian mission seriously will ultimately face some form of conflict or persecution and find themselves in need of God’s guidance. Whilst I believe He always finds a way it’s a good policy to develop the practice of listening for the voice of God by entering into adoration or some form of meditation or silent prayer so when the crisis comes, which it will, your ears will be trained to hear.

A few years ago my brother was in the Adoration Chapel at his local church, kneeling before the monstrance, earnestly seeking God’s guidance in his predicament. Just then his phone beeped. It was a message which read “time to break out the blue paint” followed by a photograph of Hamish, a character from the movie Brave Heart with an orange beard, a blue face, and a large sharpened Axe.

I know this because I sent the text message. I was 12,000 miles away in the Philippines having read the account of what was happening in his life and was pondering the situation myself in prayer when I felt prompted to send the text. It’s one of our favourite movies and I knew he would understand the meaning easily. It was necessary to resist and fight this particular corner.

I had faced similar treatment from an employer 20 years before, so I could see the trajectory and the gas lighting techniques designed to wear people down into submission and resignation. That he worked for a Catholic charity made it more surprising (and a rather dreadful betrayal; they even employed an outside ‘consultant’ to orchestrate the assassination so as not to have blood on their hands). But I knew the architect of the scheme; a deceitful man seemingly hell bent on ruining 20 years of good work; many enemies of the church have infiltrated Catholic organisations with this in mind in similar fashion.

The battle would ultimately seem to be lost; as was mine years before. But a sacrifice for what is right and proper, even if it costs you everything, is always worthwhile. There is no better place to stand than with God; as we stand with Him now, later He will stand with us at the victory parade in Heaven.

Gratitude, Thanksgiving (and favour)

Some time ago a guest Priest at our parish gave a homily about Thanksgiving and instructed us to make it a habit by thanking God for all He does for us each day and to continue for some months to establish the habit. I embarked on this journey the next day and kept a list at the back of my diary which I would add to each day, week and month.

I started with the basic necessities of life; the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, shelter, clothes, jobs and income and then added things I identified as blessings as they were given. I noticed two things as time went on. Firstly that they were often of themselves rather ordinary; I remarked to my wife that most of them related to food that I particularly enjoyed ! The second thing I noticed was that I began to feel noticeably happier each day and much more observant of things which displayed the hand of God, behind the scenes, and wondered expectantly what would be next. The experiment of noting things down as they occurred made for a more intimate, personal daily experience of God. In a way it was like re-wiring the brain to focus on what is there rather than what is absent. The latter tends to produce the opposite fruits of a feeling of lack, impatience, abandonment and misery.

Often it seemed that blessings arose through impeccable timing. Just last week I went to pay the electricity bill which presents little opportunity for a happy ending. Added to this as I arrived the payment centre was full, 30 people and only 2 cashiers. Here in the Philippines there is a pecking order. If you are over 60 you get your own cashier and a Priority number so generally it’s a bit quicker to get served. On this day I was the only over 60 and was served immediately ahead of the other 30 people although I arrived last (Matt 20:16) I was so delighted I could have moon-walked out at the end although I didn’t want to rub it in for the youngsters still in the queue! Favour seems a bit unfair.

One other thing I did become aware of though was just how much of a back-log I have accrued in thanksgiving. The many years (decades really) where I was receiving far greater numbers of blessings and not even acknowledging them at all as coming from God. Worse I put any success down to my own efforts or merit which does not concur with the reality. So my next project is one of repentance for being ungrateful and to make a new list, a much longer one, for all the gifts I have received in advance of recognising them as such. And this too will increase my joy I know. Better late than never.

Our Lady's Message from Medjugorje.

 Our Lady's Message from Medjugorje.

April 25, 2026

"Dear children,

I am praying for you and encourage you to a new life, a life in joy and prayer.

May the Holy Spirit fill you, little children, with joy so that you may be like a spring of pure and drinkable water; that you, little children, may be in God and with God missionaries of love and peace.

Your life is short here on earth and that is why I am with you to lead you towards Heaven.

Thank you for having responded to my call."
